International Work

Every year the SWC is invited to contribute to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) events in New York City, where we express the views of women across international decision-making.

The CSW is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women.  This work is rooted in advancing the impact of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW): further information can be found on the Council of Europe's website.

We are invited to these events due to our involvement with the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations (NAWO), attending CSW as a member of the UK NGO CSW Alliance. This alliance is comprised of women’s organisations from throughout the UK, who work to gain women’s equity.

The SWC is also a member of the UK CSW Core Group and the UK CSW Liaison Group which meet directly with UK Government officials.
